What do you read to keep yourself up to date? I often get this question from peers, partners, clients and mentees. Or 'Would you share with me some articles that would help me get a fast track development in my job?' My answer, in most of the cases is to read as much as possible, from trusted sources
In the market research jargon , we would call it desk research.
I read a lot, in time I have subscribed to many newsletters, industry digests, newspapers, magazines, and so on. The list has evolved as my interests had as well. Some clients brought me in new categories, industries or retail environments.
Here are some recommendations of sites that I visit regularly to get fresh insights and data in the fast moving consumer goods industries.
https://www.igd.com/ - UK based IGD is a very comprehensive data and insights provider. Although it might have a skew towards UK based retailers and shopper segments, its country retail summary, trend reports and worldwide retail news are very good.
https://euromonitor/ - If in search of large sets of data, available at macrolevel, long term trends and industry summaries, Euromonitor is a good provider. Their data service Passport, is a good option when assessing new markets, for example. Although the collecting data methodology is not always easy to grasp, the insights are relevant and could provide the initial broad perspective on a topic. I also like the whitepapers issued regularly, that need. tough, to be a registered member.
https://www.retaildive.com/ - I recommend the newsletters, they are interesting, fact based, fresh and up to date. The site covers many topics and industries, beyond FMCG so always worth scrolling up and down.
https://hbr.org In search of great articles on management, leadership, top industries or simply inspiring stories of successful businesses or their leaders. Harvard Business Review has it all. Although to get the full view you need a subscription, I personally think it worth every penny,
https://adage.com/ Marketing campaigns, advertising news, fresh, disruptive brand campaigns, new C+ marketing hires. And, from time to time, very interesting case studies. Highly recommended for any marketing aficionada.
For Romanian businesses :
https://revistaprogresiv.ro/ By far, one of the most up to date retail, trade and shopper forum for the Romanian market. They also organize very interesting and well attended events.
https://www.revista-piata.ro/ This magazine provides a good perspective on the Romanian FMCG and retail landscape.
